Duration of Protection

Your trade mark is protected for ten years from the date it was filed with the CIIPO.

To maintain your trade mark, you must pay annual fees.

When your trade mark expires, you can do the following:

  • Apply for renewal up to six months after the expiry date.
  • After six months post expiration, you may apply for your trade mark to be restored.
  • After a year or more of expiration, your trade mark will need to be reregistered.
